This solar eclipse tour is our 45th
solar eclipse adventure from ing of fire expeditions. It will feature 8 days in Tanzania and will
feature not only game viewing but the annular (ring) eclipse of the Sun on the
morning of September 1, 2016. The tour
will be led by Paul D. Maley of the NASA Johnson Space Center Astronomical
Society in Houston, Texas USA.
Our tour
primarily concentrates on game viewing with an OPTIONAL post tour that will let
you go to the prime animal migration site during this time of year. At night, if the sky is clear, there will be
opportunities to observe the Southern Sky.
The highlight will be the observation of the “ring eclipse” where the
Moon’s diameter will appear to fit entirely inside the disc of the Sun for
around 2 minutes 52 seconds. The Sun
will be high in the sky and weather chances of seeing the eclipse are about 80%
based on averaging past satellite data.
For those interested in the post-tour to the northern
part of the country, the vast wildebeest migration moves from the south to the
north of Tanzania during July and August and by September reaches the northern
Serengeti border of Tanzania and Kenya crossing the Mara River. Our ground operator has a camp positioned
here to effect the best viewing.
The reddish area at the top shows the general area where
the wildebeest migration occurs during our trip. It is not uncommon to see thousands of
wildebeest cross the Mara River in less than an hour.
Such wildebeest herds are not visible on our core tour
but may be seen as an OPTIONAL extension after the main program.
