If an opinion poll is anything to go by, President
Uhuru Kenyatta will rule the country for another term come 2017 - and it will
be by an astounding 84% approval by the people.
This will probably make a joke of his biggest contender Raila Odinga if
it turns out as has been predicted by
research firm Strategic Africa that has placed the confidence level of
Kenyans on the president at 84%. However, 11.1% of Kenyans surveyed said that
they don't have confidence in the president and 3.7% have no confidence at all.
Corruption in the government, adherence to the rule
of law, insecurity and lack of jobs are some of the areas that president Uhuru
has been rated lowest on. His best performance is on health, governance and
national unity. The poll was conducted soon after US President Barack Obama
left the country on July 26 with 2,004 respondents interviewed across 34
counties in the country. The opposition led by Raila has been constantly
criticising Uhuru's government especially on how it has tackled corruption and
insecurity.
