The former world
heavyweight boxer died on Saturday following complications related to his
decades-long battle with Parkinson's disease.
Family spokesman Bob
Gunnell said the funeral arrangements were approved by Muhammad Ali "years
ago".
He said: "The
funeral will be carried out in Muslim tradition, but Muhammad Ali truly loved
all people. The service and funeral plans were done years ago by Mr Ali who
discussed them personally. The entire service was at his specific
request."
Here
is a timeline of the key events next week:
Muhammad Ali's body will be returned to Louisville, Kentucky - where he
was born in 1942 - in the next 24-48 hours.
In the week leading up to the funeral, mourners will be able
to pay their respects at the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville.
It will be open throughout the week
to allow the public to celebrate the life of Ali.
In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family have asked that
donations be made to the Muhammad Ali Centre, which promises to continue
promoting Ali's legacy of humanitarianism.
