The 15-year-old daughter of Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay
has been shot dead in Lexington, Kentucky, the athlete's agent said.
Trinity Gay was shot during an exchange of gunfire in a
restaurant car park, Lexington Police said.
The teenager was taken to hospital, where she was
pronounced dead.
"She didn't make it," Gay told local TV
station Lex18.
"I'm so confused. She was just here last week for
fall break.
"It's so crazy. I have no idea what happened."
Witnesses said the shots were fired by people in two
vehicles - a grey Dodge Charger and a dark-coloured sports car with tinted
windows.
Officers located the Dodge Charger and detained two
"possible persons of interest" for questioning.
Police are still looking for the other vehicle involved.
Gay, 34, has competed in the last three summer Olympics.
He was part of the US team that won silver in the 4x100
metre relay at London 2012, but he was stripped of his medal after testing
positive for steroids a year later.
Gay's daughter Trinity was on the track team at
Lafayette High School, WKYT reports.
In a statement, Fayette County Schools Superintendent
Manny Caulk said: "Our hearts are broken this morning over the loss of
Trinity to this tragic and senseless act of violence.
"Please join us in keeping the Gay family close in
thought and prayer and supporting the students, staff, and families at
Lafayette High during this unspeakably difficult time."
